A bogus caller was foiled in his attempt to enter a pensioner's house after he was refused entry.
Braintree police said the incident happened at 4pm on Thursday in Pinkham Drive, Witham, when an elderly woman occupant answered a knock at the door.
The caller told the woman the water pressure needed to be turned off, but she refused to allow him in and he walked away empty handed.
A spokesman for Braintree police said: "The woman took the correct course of action after she was unsatisfied of the credibility of the caller and refused entry."
