A second jobs blow in just one week has hit the Braintree district with news that Crittall Windows in Braintree could axe up to 70 jobs.
The latest batch of redundancies follows news earlier this week that about 100 workers are to lose their jobs at Witham-based Mercer Human Resource Consulting.
A statement issued by metal window manufacturer Crittall Windows, based in Springwood Drive on the Springwood industrial estate, said a decision by its US distributor to exit the market had led to a reduced stream of American orders.
Managing director John Pyatt said there would be difficult decisions to make in the short-term, including redundancies.
Crittall Windows has long been an important part of Braintree district's industrial history and used to have factories in Braintree, Witham and Silver End where Francis Crittall built the garden village in the 1920s to provide housing for his workers.
