A scheme which gives people with disabilities a new window on the world is seeking to recruit new volunteers in Maldon and Heybridge.
The Independent Visitors Scheme, based in Hatfield Peverel and run by the Essex Coalition of Disabled People, has spent three-and-a-half years working to include its clients in day-to-day social, leisure, educational and work activities.
Its successes include helping clients gain the confidence to use public transport or visit the library.
Independent visitors are good listeners who enjoy meeting people and can spare a few hours a month.
Training for the scheme will take place at the Plantation Hall in Heybridge on Wednesdays, March 17 and 24.
