Campaigning mid-Essex villagers are overjoyed after speed reduction signs went up at an accident blackspot.
Speed limit warning signs of 50mph were yesterday put up at Ashes Road, Cressing, where the limit used to be 60mph.
Villagers have been calling for the limit to be cut to 40mph for years and renewed their fight in November 2002 after the death of a Witham teenager in an accident and a petition, supported by Braintree MP Alan Hurst, was presented to Essex County Council.
In June, the council agreed to lower the speed limit from the Galleys Corner roundabout, Braintree, to Cressing to 50mph.
Campaigner and petition organiser Rob Myers said: "We are looking forward to the improvements. We were told at the time when we had our original meeting with the council it could take three years so this is sort of now entering the second year, so I wouldn't be surprised if it takes another couple of years."
