Boy racers are scaring pedestrians and endangering lives when they speed through a town centre on motorised scooters.
Pedestrians have said they are afraid to walk through Clacton town centre at night as it turns into a race track.
Tendring councillor Roy Smith said he experienced the dangers for himself when he walked home through the town after a council meeting.
"It was absolutely disgraceful," he said. "There were scooters flying around the square, Station Road and Pier Avenue."
Sgt John Ross, head of the problem solving team at Clacton police station, said the police community support officers had noticed the problem while on patrol.
He said: "We are aware of the nuisance and we are concerned about the safety of the riders."
