High-tech spy cameras which can snap a driver's face are to be trialled in south Essex, it was revealed today.

The front-facing cameras will be used for the first time in the county at road troublespots in Southend, Billericay, Wickford and Thurrock.

The Essex Safety Camera Partnership says the cameras will rule out drivers claiming mistaken identity.

They will be used in tandem with existing speed cameras.
