A sacked Basildon Hospital theatre orderly has won a court battle to clear his name over an assault case.
Martin Reeves, 46, was alleged to have beaten up a hospital line manager who handled the complaint which led to him being dismissed.
The complaint came from a young woman at the hospital but the nature of it was not disclosed at Basildon Crown Court.
Mr Reeves appealed against a magistrates' conviction for common assault.
The court heard he was sacked following a disciplinary hearing over the complaint two and a half years ago.
One of those who dealt with the complaint was 50-year-old line manager Keith Williams, the man who accused Mr Reeves of assaulting him in the car park at Homebase DIY store, Rayleigh.
Mr Williams, who led an anaesthetists' team at the hospital, said he was in no way responsible for Mr Reeves's dismissal.
Judge Daniel Worsley, sitting with two JPs, said there was no doubt Mr Williams, of Canewdon, was beaten up, but it could have been mistaken identity.
