Castle Point MP Bob Spink has written to Castle Point chief superintendent for swift answers on anti-social behaviour problems on Canvey.

Mr Spink has told Chief Supt John Mauger of the escalating number of calls he is getting from residents about youth nuisance and street crime.

He has asked what action will be taken to solve the "out of control" problems including youths urinating in the street, and damaging property.

He said in his letter to the Superintendent: "Please could you tell me what action you can take to meet with residents on Canvey to understand the problems they face with a view to explaining your current strategies in solving these problems and to protect residents and their property.

"Can you explain exactly how many police officers are normally available on Canvey, particularly at times when disturbances can be expected?

"Can you confirm police officers will be pro-active and make arrests when ever possible and ensure that where juveniles are involved they will be taken to the police station to prevent further disturbances and once there that their parents will be contacted so they can understand the behaviour of their offspring and take action to control it?"

Chief Insp of Rayleigh police Tony Rayner said: "It is a serious problem that is receiving serious attention.

"I would not go as far as to say it is out of control."
