Two Colchester primary schools have won cash for their dedication to citizenship.
Prettygate Junior School in Colchester, has won a £2,000 BT Schools Award, to help fund a project aimed at developing the pupils' communication skills and helping them get involved in active citizenship.
And Hazelmere Junior School on Greenstead has won the same amount for a project called Friendship Week.
At Prettygate the money will pay for a playleaders project, which will train pupils to become playleaders and develop skills to identify particular needs in others.
Hazelmere's project will involve the school council arranging a special week aimed at promoting friendship across ages, genders and races.
