A £24,000 safety improvement to the Hare Green junction will start next week.
The A120/A133 junction near Colchester is being worked on following an accident study on behalf of the Highways Agency.
The survey identified measures which could be quickly implemented to reduce the number of accidents.
Roger Chenery, Highways Agency project manager, said the work would raise drivers' awareness of the alignment of the slip roads and improve the approach to the A120 trunk road.
To minimise the impact of the work on drivers, it will be carried out during off-peak hours between 9.30am and 3.30pm, with lane closures on the slip roads.
