Brett Smith amassed a personal tally of 14 points as Canvey took advantage of the free league weekend by taking on a crushing Chelmsford Wanderers at Tewkes Creek.
He opened the scoring with a penalty to set the islanders on the way to a 29-12 win, and added three conversions and his side's fourth and final try of the day.
Canvey raced into a 24-0 lead as Jay Bedford scored in the corner, skipper Paul Dunn touched down and No8 Owen Stokes broke two tackles to score the third.
Smith converted all three and then took Jonathan Edwards' pass to extend the lead again after Wanderers broke to score a converted try.
The visitors added a late consolation in the dying seconds.
Rayleigh Wyverns warmed up for Saturday's clash with Essex Two leaders South Woodham Ferrers with a 7-6 win at Old Bealonians that deserved to be far more comprehensive.
Westcliff Colts enjoyed a hard-fought 28-10 win over Brentwood, with John Sigwart (twice), Rob Sanson, Elliott Harvey and Rob Grover all scoring tries and Nick Bard kicking a penalty.
