Colchester United go into tonight's vital LDV Vans Trophy clash at Northampton Town boosted by the news that Karl Duguid has had his red card against Barnsley rescinded.

Karl Duguid

A Football Association committee informed the U's of their decision to overturn the sending-off and uphold the club's appeal after viewing the incident on video.

Duguid was controversially sent-off by Sussex referee Clive Penton for a 'professional foul' on Barnsley striker Kevin Betsy nine minutes from the end of their 1-1 Nationwide League Second Division draw at Layer Road 11 days ago.

"It's great news," said a delighted Duguid, who will complete a current three-match ban after tonight's area semi-final against the Third Division Cobblers at Sixfields following his red card at Queens Park Rangers at the end of December.

"Thank God commonsense prevailed," said the U's longest-serving player.

"This news has given me a great lift and now I'm available for our FA Cup tie at Coventry on Saturday."
