A man barged in to a woman's home in Cressing after asking about her television licence.
The woman was on her own in her house in Jeffrey's Road on Friday when the man knocked at her door asking her about her TV licence at about 12.40pm.
He then barged past her and went into the living room.
A spokesman from Braintree police said he then gave her a form and left the house, getting in to a blue Renault car with three other people.
The man is described as white, about 5 ft 8 ins tall, wearing a black bomber jacket and black trousers.
TV Licensing were contacted and confirmed representatives were operating in that area at the time but the man did not work for them.
Witnesses should contact Braintree Police on 01376 551212.
