Angry residents are determined to put the brakes on speeding drivers down a notorious road on Canvey.
They claim Castle Point Council has failed to stop racing motorists along Smallgains Avenue. Monica Cadman, 42, of Smallgains Avenue, has been backed by every household in her road.
She handed over a petition at the latest Canvey east area forum. She said: "The drivers cause mayhem down there, something has to be done."
Castle Point director of technical services Nigel Thomas said: "For further project work it would need funding from Essex County Council's highways budget."
He urged borough secretary John Waugh to squeeze the matter onto the agenda of the next highways committee meeting on January 26 - even though the deadline for agenda items has already passed.
