Tycoon Sir Richard Branson has failed in his attempt to move a pedestrian crossing outside his Virgin Active leisure centre in Rayleigh Road, Thundersley.
Instead, the speed limit along Rayleigh Road is to be reduced from 40mph to 30mph.
Castle Point Council chiefs met county council accident reduction officers and they decided it was safer to cut the speed limit rather than move the crossing.
