A leading cartoonist demonstrated the powerful impact of art and satire to Southend students.

Martin Rowson, an award winning freelance cartoonist whose work appears regularly in the national press, spoke about his work to pupils at Southend High School for Girls.
Mr Rowson's inspirational lecture gave youngsters the rare opportunity to witness a highly successful artist in action.
Youngsters heard about his methods and the inspiration behind them during the eagerly awaited lecture.
Neeral Bhaat, a year 12 student who studies art and political A-levels at the Southchurch Boulevard School, said: "I have seen Martin Rowson's cartoons in The Times and I couldn't wait for the chance to ask him how he goes about making them."
