Southend Swifts under-14 girls lost their League South unbeaten record when they went down to similarly-undefeated Haringey Angels at Greensward College.
The Essex girls knew they were in for a hard time as the North London side have five 6ft-plus players, and so it proved as Swifts failed to score in the opening five minutes while their opponents notched 12.
They eventually lost 60-39 with captain Emma Hart (18) and Jackjie Jobey (nine) their top scorers and Natalie Clark playing outstanding defence.
In the Junior Women's League, Swifts won 82-57 at Solent Stars to retain leadership of the division.
