A high school is ditching its entire collection of library books and replacing them with internet terminals.
Eastwood School, in Rayleigh Road, Eastwood, is set to discard its aging books.
Sources within the school said the move has divided opinion among teachers, many of whom are sceptical about the wisdom of running a school with a "bookless" library.
It is believed the English department will retain curriculum texts, while other departments will keep some reference material, but the central library will be replaced by computers.
Teachers at the school, who asked to remain anonymous, said the library collection had been allowed to become dated in recent years and the cost of replacement had encouraged the school to choose to remove the school's reference collection.
One teacher said: "Many of the books were very old and had limited use anyway. A lot of the teachers have concerns about how this is going to work.
"None of us has taught in a school without a library before."
