Officers were called to the address in Mersey Road, off Highfields Road, Witham, at 3am yesterday after being alerted by an ambulance crew, who discovered the body of the 42-year-old woman.
Her husband, who was also at the house, was taken to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, after a suspected overdose, police said.
He was later released after being treated by doctors.
A police spokesman said: "A post-mortem examination was carried out and proved to be inconclusive and is still subject to a toxicology report.
"However, the death is not being treated as suspicious. There will be an investigation to establish the facts and the matter will be referred to her Majesty's coroner."
