Police are searching for thieves who stole £2,500 worth of tobacco and cigarettes from the co-op supermarket in Broad Way, Silver End.
The thieves first covered up a CCTV camera before removing the front window of the store to allow them access to the tobacco area.
As well as the lost stock, the thieves also caused damage to the store, which will cost £800 to repair, by breaking in.
The theft happened at about 2.30am on Wednesday, and just before the CCTV camera was covered, members of the public were seen walking past the store.
Anyone with information about the crime should contact Witham CID on 01376 501212.
