Southend United midfielder Jay Smith is hoping to continue his fine FA Cup form tonight when the Shrimpers travel to Scarborough for the eagerly-anticipated third round replay.
Smith netted an impressive volley during the 1-1 draw with the Seadogs 11 days ago and has already scored three times in this season's competition.
Jay Smith - looking to help Blues secure a place in the fourth round, where they could face Chelsea
"I don't know why it is but I seem to be scoring a few in the Cup," said the former Aston Villa trainee.
"I've only got one in the league but hopefully I can get another goal tonight and help us win the game."
But Smith admitted he was expecting another nervy 90 minutes against the Conference club who have already beaten Doncaster and Port Vale in their heroic Cup run.
"It will be a hard game tonight going to their ground," said the 22-year-old.
"We had a good match with them when we played them before. They're a decent side but we made them look a bit better than they actually are last time because we didn't play anywhere near as well as we can."
Smith added the Shrimpers are confident of producing an improved performance this time as they bid to secure a fourth round slot against either moneybags Chelsea or First Division Watford.
"We're fully focused on the Scarborough game but obviously you're thinking about possibly playing Chelsea at home in the next round," he said.
