An operation to target shop lifting and pick pocketing in Brentwood Town Centre has been hailed a success by police.
Extra uniformed and under cover officers patrolled the High Street for four days to keep a look out for thieves and it resulted in three arrests for shop lifting with two of the suspects being charged while one is on police bail.
Two arrests were also made for drug related offences.
Sgt Graham Shaw of Brentwood Police said: "Not only did we make arrests but the visible presence of officers appears to have acted as a deterrent as the number of incidents was much lower than the same time in previous years."
