Essex boxing is mourning the death of legend Johnny Broadbent, who died in Basildon hospital earlier this week.
A former pro fighter, Johnny, co-founded Belhus Park Boxing Club with Norman Wheeler - who still trains youngsters at South Ockendon.
The two men began coaching together in the 1950s and trained thousands of fighters, including lightweight Pat Finn, welterweight David Eggleton and Phil Lundren.
"I met Johnny and we set up the club in 1951. Johnny's motivation was very good," Wheeler said. "Johnny had been a good professional boxer after the war and knew how to train lads."
South Ockendon businessman Billy Blundell was trained by Johnny in the early days of the club.
"Johnny will be fondly remembered by many, many local people and fighters," said Blundell.
