For the last time staff and children at Pitsea Junior School, High Road, Pitsea, dressed in their house colours which included yellow for canary, red for admiral, green for dragon and blue for whale, as the colours are now to be replaced with names.
Headteacher Alison Blant said a competition was held to find the new names.
Mrs Blant said: "The children enjoy it and is a good way to encourage team spirit and to recognise good work."
She said good work and behaviour will earn each name points for their team and the winning team will be presented with a cup at assembly each week.
