The Kelvedon birthplace of fiery Victorian preacher Charles Haddon Spurgeon - the Billy Graham of his day - is up for sale on the anniversary of his death, 112 years ago.
Spurgeon's House in the High Street continues to attract pilgrims from all over the world who want to see where the Baptist minister, dubbed the Prince of Preachers, was born in 1834.
Its current occupants, Richard and Shirley Whitworth, who bought the Blue Plaque cottage 16 years ago, are planning to retire abroad and have put the historic home on the market with a guiding price of £306,000.
Shirley said: "We do get the odd pilgrim or two from far flung places turning up on the doorstep and sometimes invite them in to look around, but we draw the line when the occasional coach party turns up with their cameras and camcorders.
"We don't want to give the impression that we are besieged by visitors. Those who do come are very earnest, often ministers, and those buying our cottage would have to understand its significance to them."
The selling agents for Spurgeon House are John D Wood & Co of Chelmsford.
