A motorist died and two others were seriously injured after a four-vehicle crash

The accident happened when a blue Ford Escort car and an lorry were involved in a collision on the A120 at Tinker Street, Wrabness.

The Escort, travelling towards Colchester, was pushed about 20 metres back and the Harwich-bound lorry veered into the opposite carriageway and ended up in a ditch.

A man from the Harwich area, who was driving the Escort, was certifed dead at the scene of the accident

A silver Toyota Corolla was also in collision with the lorry and also ended up in the ditch.

Then a blue van struck the front of the lorry as it was in the ditch, pushing two ladders, which were on board, into the driver's side of the lorry cab.

The van driver had to be cut free from the wreckage by firefighters and was taken to Colchester General Hospital with serious leg injuries.

A passenger in the van suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital. Both were from the Colchester area.

The Toyota and the van were also travelling towards Colchester when the accident happened near the turn-off to Primrose Lane at 6.45pm yesterday.

The driver of the Toyota, of Brightlingsea, was also taken to Colchester General Hopsital with serious leg injuries.

The condition of the victims was today described as stable.
