The FA Trophy fourth round draw has thrown up an intriguing tie between the two sides who produced the best results in last weekend's battle for a last-32 place.
Up for the cup - Canvey Island soccer boss Jeff King received a big boost before Saturday's 6-0 FA Trophy thrashing of Nationwide Conference Farnborough Town when he was presented with the Mayor's Cup, awarded to Gulls by Castle Point figurehead Chris Freeman for the club's outstanding service to the Castle Point community and the recognition they have achieved for the district with their superb achievements Picture: LUAN MARSHALL
Ryman Premier leaders Canvey Island must travel to a Stafford Rangers side who, on Saturday, pulled off a 2-1 victory over Nationwide Conference Scarborough, who could soon be battling out a home FA Cup date with multi-million pounds Premiership side Chelsea.
Gulls, of course, were enjoying their own third-round Trophy triumph against Conference opposition at the weekend when they thrashed a woeful Farnborough Town 6-0 in a match which could have seen the more highly-rated side conced double figures.
Stafford currently stand fourth in the Dr Martens Premier Division and some of the gloss was taken off their success by the fact that Scarborough fielded a side with nine changes from the one that drew at Southend United the previous weekend in the FA Cup.
That was due to the fact that the Yorkshire side host the Shrimpers tomorrow with a home date against the winners of the Chelsea v Watford replay, being staged at the same time, awaiting the winners.
Gulls boss Jeff King said: "We had two of our most influential players missing in Jeff Minton and Ty Gooden and were magnificent on the day.
"I couldn't have asked any more of the two boys who came in Ollie Berquez, who scored a hat-trick, and Kevin Dobinson."
