An outline for tackling anti-social behaviour in the Braintree district has got the go-ahead paving the way for consultation and a public meeting within weeks.
Braintree Council's plans to combat problems such as litter, graffiti and petty vandalism have been approved by its executive, along with £261,000 to be spent on the new initiatives, a timescale for consultation and to implement the ideas.
The proposals include the creation of a team of high-profile street wardens to be its "eyes and ears" and enforce its powers, by working with parish and town councils and other local groups.
It would involve housing estate rangers, estate rangers, estate managers, inspectors and other council staff wearing street warden uniforms and carrying out more activities to counter anti-social behaviour.
Cash could pay for four extra community support officers, two funded by the council and two by Essex Police.
