The quad squad turned out in force to prepare the way to transform a "boring" square of school grounds into a magical paradise.
Digging in - parents, pupils and staff all worked together to transform an area of grounds at Hadleigh Junior School Picture: LUAN MARSHALL
Parents and staff got stuck in to clear the neglected quadrangle at Hadleigh Junior School in Church Road, Hadleigh, and are set to finish the job - weather permitting - on Sunday, January 25.
From then on the ideas planted in four parts of the area will take shape and ultimately take root.
Headteacher Diane Conway said: "When we talked to the children about improvements to the school, one of the things they said was that the quad was boring. We looked at it again and thought that they were right.
"We have had a working party plan what we were going to do. In one corner we are going to have a Queen of Hearts garden, bringing in Alice in Wonderland, with a giant chess board, croquet game and fence panels 60cm by 40cm with paintings of playing cards on them."
"We will also have a Japanese style garden with different coloured stones and a water feature, which will lead off our conservatory."
Mrs Conway paid tribute to local firms who have already agreed to supply materials free.
Anyone who could offer an old rowing boat, or other help for the quad plans, is asked to contact her or school secretary Kate Hughes on 01702 558619.
