Police found cocaine and cannabis when they stopped a man in the street, a court has heard.
Officers also discovered more drugs and cash when they went to the home of 20-year-old Robert Mills on July 25.
Mills told police later he had been supplying the drugs on a social basis to friends, Chelmsford Crown Court heard.
He was sent to a young offenders' institution for a total of two years after he admitted charges of possessing drugs with intent to supply and drugs posession.
The court heard Mills, of New Street, Halstead, was stopped and searched by police in the town's Kings Road. Officers found five cocaine wraps and a small amount of cannabis.
When his flat was searched later, another six cocaine wraps and 100 grammes of cannabis were also discovered, along with £765 in cash, Deborah Champion, prosecuting, said.
Donald Oates, mitigating, said Mills was not a drug dealer and had only supplied on a social basis. He had been a heavy cocaine user, spending £400 a week, but was now off drugs, Mr Oates said.
