An investigation has been launched after two people were injured in a crash involving a police car.

The police Ford Focus and a Vauxhall Astra car were in collision in Stanway, Colchester, as officers were heading to a domestic incident in West Bergholt.

The crash happened as the Focus was being driven along Warren Lane with its blue lights flashing and the Astra was pulling out of Church Lane.

A 49-year-old woman, of Fingringhoe, who was driving the Astra, was taken to hospital by ambulance with cuts to her face.

The male passenger of the Focus, a 23-year-old Colchester-based police officer, suffered whiplash injuries and was also taken to hospital.

Both were released after treatment.

The 30-year-old driver of the patrol car, a man, was not injured in the crash.
