Billericay Town Football Club's new chairman is to review controversial plans for a £14.2million stadium at Basildon's Gloucester Park.

Businessman Steve Kent was named last night as majority shareholder of the Ryman Premier League club following a deal worth £130,000.

He bought the controlling interest of shares from departing chairman Rod Moore, company secretary Jim Hall and at least one other supporter.

Mr Kent, who lives in Danbury, said he would review the stadium proposals before making his views known.

But the moves are sure to throw into doubt the plans, which have been met with a wall of protest from local residents.
