Police were called to scenes of traffic chaos after a lorry shed its load

There were further problems for drivers after an accident on the A12.

The damage at Colchester North Station bridge today

The first incident happened at 8.20am today when a lorry, carrying wooden roof trusses, lost its load under the North Station bridge in Colchester.

It led to traffic gridlock on the Avenue of Remembrance.

Stanway road policing unit were called to clear the road and to direct the traffic after drivers began reversing on the road to avoid the snarl-up.

But by 9am traffic had begun flowing freely on the roundabout again. The lorry was removed, leaving just two packs of roof trusses in the cycle lane under the bridge.

A spokesman for Great Eastern trains said a passenger informed the station that the lorry had shed its load under the rail bridge but rail services were not delayed.

In the second incident, four vehicles were involved in a crash on the Colchester-bound A12 at Kelvedon.

Two people were taken to hospital for treatment by Essex Air Ambulance.
