Dean Bowditch is chomping at the bit for his first League start with Ipswich Town.

The 17-year-old is doing everything right - working tirelessly in training and taking opportunities with both hands when he emerges from the bench.

But, so far, that first start has proved elusive - apart from one in a makeshift side in the Carling Cup at Notts County.

Town travel to Reading tomorrow and Bowditch is dreaming of his League baptism, especially as fellow striker Darren Bent is struggling with a foot injury and rated doubtful for the trip to the Madejski Stadium.

He told the Evening Gazette: "I feel I'm more than ready for my first start.

"I'm doing everything possible to give myself a chance, working my socks off in training and always trying to make an impression as a substitute.

"But I accept I've got to be patient and wait for my chance. I respect any decision made by the manager."
