A Tory by-election candidate has attacked Rayleigh Town Council's plans to build a new pavilion on King George V playing field.
Pat Aves, who is standing for the Conservatives at the town council by-election in Whitehouse ward on Thursday, said: "I will vote and speak against the town council spending over £1million on a grandiose pavilion."
She said she was all in favour of a new pavilion, as the present one was dilapidated, but not one that was so expensive.
"I am convinced a pavilion suitable for people to change in and have a toilet facility could be built for far less money. Already, the council is frittering away residents' money."
