Sensational rumours of a merger between Ryman League premier division giants Heybridge Swifts and Ridgeons League premier division side Tiptree United have today been dismissed.

Murmurings of the Jam-makers and Swifts joining together have been instantly quashed by Tiptree secretary John Wisbey.

The rumour seems to have been cultivated due to a rift emerging at Tiptree concerning the future of the club.

But speaking to the Evening Gazette, Wisbey said: "I have not approached Heybridge and they haven't approached me."

However, Wisbey added: "There's no secret that as far as the future of our club is concerned there is currently a huge rift between the football administration and the Trustees.

"On one hand there are those of us who have the ambition to push the club forward, particularly as it now seems that the reorganisation of the non-league pyramid could make this feasible.

"On the other we have our trustees whose main priority is to ensure the long-term survival of the club's bars and social side."

It has left the football side of Tiptree United in a precarious state.

"At the next annual general meeting we will have to seriously consider what level of football we should be playing at," said Wisbey of the club he saw reach the prestigious FA Vase final in 2002.
