An 87-year-old who lost nearly £950 after thieves swept through her home as she watched television has urged other pensioners to keep their money in the bank.

Freda Plimmer wants to stop other pensioners falling prey to crooks who regard the elderly as easy targets.
The former army nurse from Southend, said: "I had been watching the telly and then turned it off and picked up a book. Suddenly there was a chap in the living room.
"I went upstairs and saw the mess. He had turned over the mattress and tipped everything out of drawers. He had even taken money out of my rent book."
The man who spoke to her is described as white, in his early 20s, 5ft 9ins to 10ins tall, black hair in a skinhead cut, wearing a short navy jacket.
