Phil Parkinson could be forced to move into the loan transfer market if a mystery back injury to his Colchester United ace Andy Myers fails to clear up quickly.
And one of the players the U's boss is eyeing-up is his former Reading team-mate and defender John Mackie.
Parkinson told the Evening Gazette today: "I'm very worried about Andy's injury. It's got us puzzled.
"So, with Myers' injury in mind, I have made inquiries about John Mackie with a view to bringing him here on loan.
"It would mean I would be able to switch Liam Chilvers to play at left-back if I wanted to."
Londoner Mackie, a 27-year-old centre-back and former captain of Reading, was surprisingly told he could leave The Royals last season with a year still remaining on his contract.
