Kings Ford Infant School in Shrub End invited its very first headteacher back to help celebrate the school's half century.
Ella Warren was 37 when she took over as head at the very first school built after the war.
She said: "I was head there for 23 years. It was the first school built after the war so it was extremely modern. It had a flat roof, big windows and was painted with bright colours. At the end of the war everything was very grey and schools all had small windows so this was a completely different style."
Linda Rowley, current headteacher at Kings Ford Infants, said: "It is 50 years to the day that the school opened and we have Miss Warren's original entry in the log book for the first day of school. We always keep in touch with her and invite her to school events and thought it would be lovely to invite her to assembly."
