Plans to redevelop two office blocks in Victoria Avenue in Southend have won the support of a senior Labour councillor.
David Norman, who represents Victoria Ward where the blocks are set to be either demolished or revamped for affordable housing said he welcomed the proposals.
He said: "The truth is that Heath House and Carby House are no longer suitable for the major IT requirements for companies these days."
Mr Norman said the council, when looking at the redevelopment of the Victoria Avenue area, had to look closely at the situation with parking in the whole of the area and plan ahead for 30 years in the future.
"I hope we will also be looking closely at the situation in Boston Avenue which is an important business area for the town."
