Police are warning people in the Harwich area to beware of counterfeit cash in circulation.
There have been four false notes found in four days two fake £50 notes and two counterfeit 50 Euro notes.
Sgt Peter Wood, of Harwich police, said all the notes had been offered by customers trying to buy goods at Safeway superstore and filling station in Parkeston.
He said: "People need to be aware of counterfeit cash and just to be careful and check how the note feels.
"If it doesn't feel right you shouldn't accept it and then report it to the police."
The counterfeit money is said to have a silver line and a watermark, but it looks shiny and feels waxy.
