Police are warning elderly residents to be careful after another person fell victim to a bogus caller.
A man approached a home in Bendlowes Road, Great Bardfield, at around 2pm yesterday.
He told the elderly woman who owned the house that he had been sent to check on the lighting in the property and asked to be let in.
The woman allowed the man inside and he proceeded to look around all of the rooms in the house.
After searching for a period of time he left the property and ran off. The woman later found that he had taken a purse which contained £300 in cash.
The man is described as around 6ft, of big build, short hair, wearing a navy blue jumper.
A spokesman for Braintree police asked people to always be careful when answering the door to strangers.
