Veterans' football stalwart Tony Hoskins today looked back on a busy 12 months as he prepares for an exciting two years ahead.
The Southend Borough Combination Veterans League secretary has seen changes at the top in the league's hierachy and the successful introduction of representative matches.
But now Hoskins is focusing on plans to give vets soccer a higher profile as he starts preparing for the SBCVL's 25th anniversary celebrations in 2005.
Hoskins has made two visits to the Football Association headquarters in Soho Square, London, to discuss plans for a national veterans soccer tournament.
"I have had a couple of meetings with the FA's league development manager Mike Appleby and we hope to be making a major announcement soon," said Hoskins.
The possibility of a showdown featuring vets leagues from around the country comes as the SBCVL is stepping up its own programme of representative fixtures.
An SBCVL rep side is due to play a Norfolk and Suffolk Veterans League team in February.
And there are plans for a match with the Ridley's Essex Veterans League and a rematch against the Sceptre Sunday League in the pipeline.
