Colin 'Jaws' Lloyd once again saw his hopes of winning a world title fall by the wayside as he lost the final set to Wayne Mardle in an epic fourth-round tie at the 2004 Ladbrokes PDC World Darts Championship at Purfleet's Circus Tavern.
It all looked so promising for the Witham star.
Having dropped the opening set, Lloyd consciously slowed his throwing time down and more consistent strikes at the treble 20 bed saw him record a 15-dart leg on the way to levelling the score.
The following two sets saw Lloyd take control of the match and pressure was showing on the face of Mardle as Jaws swum to a 3-1 lead.
Fans of the number five seed were already getting excited at the prospect of a quarter-final showdown with Simon Whitley.
However, Lloyd was not able to complete the job in the fifth set as his opponent struck back to reduce the arrears to 3-2.
In the sixth, Jaws produced some breathtaking darts, including a 65 check-out under pressure, but the set went fell to Murdle.
In the final set, Lloyd struggled to regain his consistency and, despite an excellent bull finish to level at 1-1, he narrowly lost out in the next two and his dream came to an end.
