Chelmsford City and Dover Athletic fought out a mildly entertaining goalless draw at New Lodge as honours finished even on New Year's Day at New Lodge.
In a game of few chances it was the defences that bossed proceedings, with an early opportunity falling for City's George Lay, but the ball cleared both keeper Paul Hyde and the crossbar.
Dover then went close, as a corner from the right was headed against the goalpost by Jamie Day with Paul Nicholls well beaten.
Early in the second period the same player nudged another cross towards goal but Steve Butterworth cleared the ball on the goalline.
As the half wore on it became more and more apparant that this match was destined to end all-square. Lay fluffed his lines when almost put in on goal, then blasted over in the dying minutes as City finished the stronger.
No goals though.
