Traders calling for CCTV in Tiptree are planning to have their say at a meeting on Monday.
The parish council has been looking at the possibility for CCTV for five years but there had been insufficient support from the community.
But there has been a recent spate of vandalism, including damage to a van, used by the Community Resource Centre, which has been put out of use.
In September, jewellery shop Cartouche was the victim of a £50,000 burglary when raiders smashed into the Church Road store and grabbed rings, bracelets and earrings.
Traders have called for more to be done to deter thieves.
There will be a chance for the public to have their say at the open session of the parish council meeting starting at 8.30pm.
