Chelmsford fought out a brave goalless draw at title contenders Crawley Town last night.
The Clarets came into this clash off the back of a confidence-boosting first win of the season against Moor Green on Saturday, and quickly settled into their stride at Broadfield, frustrating their hosts.
Indeed, they might have taken the lead had former Canvey man Matt Jones' shot fallen just the other side of Andy Little's goalpost.
At the other end Dan Marney was Crawley's biggest threat, while Nigel Brake skidded a drive just wide of the upright.
The Sussex club dominated the second period, but again fell short of the standard needed to penetrate the City backline.
When they did come close, keeper Paul Nicholls expertly deflected Charlie McDonald's drive over the bar, before tipping a Nigel Brake corner onto the woodwork as the hosts piled on the pressure.
But City held firm to claim an important and impressive away point.
