Bosses at a computer firm were today left counting the cost after thieves drove a car through their shop's window before stealing £500 worth of equipment.
The ram-raid took place at 12.30am at Mad Egg Discount Computers, in Canvey Road, Canvey.
Sgt Kevin Diable-White, said a person living in a neighbouring property was woken by the sound of a loud bang and looked out to see Ford Escort car had reversed into the shop.
He said: "The car shattered a 7ft by 7ft glass window that was at the front of the premises.
"The thieves then ran inside the shop and stole £500 worth of computer equipment before making off."
A short while later security guards at Thorney Bay caravan park, on Canvey, reported a dark-coloured vehicle which had rear end damage, tried to get on to the site.
Sgt Diable-White said: "The security guards would not let the car pass so the vehicle sped off."
