Fuming residents who claim new road calming measures have turned their road into an accident black-spot today demanded action to solve the problem.

Residents in Bramble Road, Hadleigh, are angry they were not consulted on plans for the scheme implemented in March.

They say there has been more accidents and speeding since the road was narrowed with expanded pavements designed to act as a "pinch point" and slow down traffic at the junction with Moorcroft Avenue.

Peter Lewis, who lives in the road, dubbed it a "shambles in Brambles".

He said: "There has been three collisions with the road calming construction in place."

A group is now set to meet with the chairman of the Hadleigh forum, councillor Godfrey Isaacs, to discuss changes needed to the "pinch point".

Mr Isaacs said nothing should have been done to the road, even though it is used as a rat-run between from the A127 and Thundersley and Hadleigh.

He said: "What should have been done is to make St Michael's Road, which connects the arterial road with Bramble Road, a one-way street which would cut the traffic flow by 50 per cent."
