A World War Two bomb was today being made safe by Royal Navy Experts after it was found off the coast of Westcliff yesterday.
The 2,200 lb German bomb was discovered by a trawler at 3.40pm yesterday and it was left 800 metres from the shoreline.
Part of the Western Esplanade and surrounding roads were shut off earlier today as Royal Navy Experts prepared to move the bomb to deep water to make it safe.
A police spokeswoman said the risk to the public was minimal.
